Project Philippines
For years lawyers and judges in the Philippines are being systematical threatened and even killed. For as many years ASF Netherlands supports local initiatives to stop these ‘extra judicial killings’, as they are called in the Philippines.
In 1992 a group of Dutch lawyers, guided by mr Hans Gaasbeek, vice president of ASF Netherlands, visited the Philippines and investigated the legal system and the threats and killings.
Unfortunatly the violence against lawyers and judges has increased the past few years. Therefore, ASF Netherlands, together with the foundation Lawyers for Lawyers, organized a fact finding mission to the Philippines. From 15 to 20 June 2006 an independent delegation of lawyers and judges, visited the Philippines, and investigated the violence against their Philippines colleagues.
